Hello Sports fans. Today, July 7, 2025, I will provide my weekly commentary. Today I would like to provide my projections for the WNBA All Rookie Team for 2025 so far:
No.1- Sonia Citron-Washington Mystics, No.2-KiKi Iriafen- Washington Mystics, No.3- Paige Bueckers-Dallas Wings, No.4- Te-Hina Paopao, Atlanta Dream, and No.5- Saniya Rivers- Connecticut Sun. Citron and Iriafen are like the Mystic's Dynamic Duo. This pair came into the league and made a sudden impact on the team helping the Mystics play above their expectations for the youngest team in the league. Of course Paige Bueckers stepped right in to become the Wings Floor General. The Wings are building and Bueckers has become a big part of their building process. Te-Hina Paopao is another whole story. This young Rookie Sniper was drafted to a team Stacked with talent, All Veterans. Yet Paopao stepped in and started at point guard for the injured Jordin Canada in preseason and played like a veteran. She showed the kind of leadership she possess as a rookie and even had a game high point game of 14 points in preseason. Even though Paopao's minutes have been reduced due to the return of starting guard Jordin Canada, Paopao still continues to make an impact off the bench as a rookie. Te-Hina has had a couple of 16 point games back to back off the bench and has had a career high 5, 3 pointers made in a single game. She also leads the WNBA in 3 point percentage at 57% and a overall TS% of 65.8%. She also can play defense and is a great floor general. The Rookie Te-Hina Paopao has achieved all of this playing on a team STACKED with talented Veterans , that are ALL Stars among which she started at the beginning of the season. So even though her minutes have been reduced it is not for lack of talent and performance. With numbers like this, the talent and impact she has made as a rookie, how can you not place Te-Hina Paopao on the ALL Rookie team? And last but not least, Saniya Rivers, who has been awesome for the Sun with her defense and leadership ability. Rivers has been another rookie that has come in and took over. I see a great future for her in the W. So, these are my favorite picks for the All Rookie Team this season.
Before I sign off today, I want to make a comment and I hope it doesn't rub anyone the wrong way. I would like to see the Lynx trade for Kamilla Cardoso. Cardoso is wasting her talents in Chicago. As long as Angel Reese is the WNBA's Marketing Target, Cardoso is never going to get the credit she so rightfully deserves. It is a shame that Popularity can over power Sheer Talent. I hate to see a great talent like Kamilla go to waste.
