At TDG Sports Marketing, we believe that marketing should be about more than just selling products or services. We are driven by a passion for helping businesses and people connect with the world of sports from a woman's perspective. We will keep you informed on women's sports, especially WNBA and Women's College Basketball. And we hope to gain your support. Thank you!
We are about 15 games or so into the season and the Top 5 Teams; UCLA, South Carolina, Notre Dame, USC and Texas are performing consistently in holding their rankings as they are playing well. Each team's leader: Te-Hina Paopao- South Carolina, Lauren Betts-UCLA, Hannah Hidalgo-Notre Dame, JuJu Watkins-USC and Madison Booker-Texas are individually playing well to help their team stay on top. These Young Guns and their stellar performances are also proving to the world of women's basketball they deserve to move to the next level, WNBA without a doubt. There is also no doubt in my mind that 4 of these 5 teams will be competing for the final four and 2 of the 4 will be competing for the NCAA Championship!
And as far as MVP, I think the format should be changed slightly. Obviously the last two teams standing have proven they are the best, so why not give an MVP and Co-MVP? MVP to the best player on the winning team and Co-MVP to the runner up best player, defending team.
It's just a thought that would make the game even more interesting.
My pick for the Championship is none other than South Carolina vs UCLA. And I guarantee, South Carolina will get sweet revenge for their earlier season loss. I feel the game will come to a Coaching Strategy in which Coach Dawn Staley has the advantage with her 3 Championships and win loss ratio. I think the South Carolina Gamecocks will overwhelm the Bruins. The earlier loss was due to South Carolina being overconfident and underestimating the lady Bruins. South Carolina had not been beaten in almost 2 years. It was bound to happen and would have happen to any team. I'm not making excuses, that's just sports, period.
The bottom line, South Carolina has too much talent and can beat you in so many ways and that is the scary truth. They have 2 starting 5 teams!!

The South Carolina Gamecocks Women's Basketball Team Keep rolling right along, even after a major setback of one of their major contributors. Power forward Ashlyn Watkins sustained an injury that will sideline her for the remainder of the season. The team will miss her stellar play and contributions to the team's success. But South Carolina seems to keep moving right along with their winning ways. It seems as though South Carolina continues to get better each game. The Lady Gamecocks have beaten Ranked Teams in their last 5 games and beat them convincingly: Mississippi State- 95-68, Texas A&M- 90-49, Texas-67-50, Alabama-76-58. South Carolina is playing Oklahoma today, January 19th. The score is 101-60, Final. South Carolina blows out Oklahoma ranked #13 overall in Women's College Basketball. The Lady Gamecocks have basically blown out all of their contestants. Anytime you beat a team by 15 points or more, it is considered a blowout. Freshman Joyce Edwards has stepped up to contribute in the place of Ashlyn Watkins and has done a Great Job averaging double doubles in games. The Lady Gamecocks have such a well-balanced team in their starting five and the rotation. The team basically have a starting 10. The bench players could probably start elsewhere. The point is the players for South Carolina care more about winning a Championship, than individual achievement. They don't care who scores the most points and rebounds. This is what makes the team very Unselfish and a WINNER. This is why Coach Dawn Staley is "the best" at what she does, and every dollar South Carolina is paying her is Well Deserved. Once again, I have to say, I can't see anyone beating The Lady Gamecocks in the finals. There are some Top Good Teams, UCLA, Texas and Notre Dame, which I pick to be in the final four alongside The Lady Gamecocks. But I just can't see any of these teams defeating South Carolina, not in the Championship.
I know some of you might say, UCLA has already beaten South Carolina this year and you are right. UCLA beat South Carolina 77-62. I won't make excuses for South Carolina. The Lady Gamecocks were Out Played. They experienced a rude awakening, a surprise and a lashing. But The Lady Gamecocks have the better Overall Team and Talent. South Carolina came into Pauley Pavillion overconfident and underestimated UCLA's supporting cast. The team was so fixated on Lauren Betts until they underestimated the rest of the team. South Carolina did an excellent job on Betts, holding her to half of her average, 11 points when she averages over 20 points a game. It happens to every good team. South Carolina was riding a 75-game win streak from almost 2 years before the loss. I bet it will not happen again, not under Coach Dawn Staley's Leadership. Lighting doesn't strike twice with The Lady Gamecocks. Remember where you heard this statement.
Until next week, keep watching and supporting Women's Basketball.
